Seattle is a food mecca. Fine dining, hidden gems, food trucks, and ethnic foods from around the world; there is so much deliciousness to be found. However, as the suburbs around Seattle grow and become more densely populated, the food quality to be found is quickly improving as well. Especially on the Eastside, the area across Lake Washington to the East of Seattle.
Across Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, and other Eastside cities you’ll find a growing bakery scene. We recently reviewed the 20 best bakeries in the Seattle area, but we’ve also traveled across the Eastside to discover our favorite choices. Here is Seattle Travel’s guide to the best bakeries on the Eastside.
1. Farine Bakery & Cafe
- Eastside Favorite
- Redmond and Bellevue
Belgian-inspired Farine Bakery & Cafe has quickly become an Eastside mainstay with both Redmond and Bellevue locations. Belgian makes me think of Belgian waffles and they do those well while also excelling at pastries and breads. Farine also serves delicious tartines, sandwiches and several breakfast dishes, making it a great brunch spot. Give their salted caramel or Belgian triple chocolate eclair a try, they are favorites!
2. Cafe Dupar
- New Classic
- Woodinville
Lisa Dupar is a name well-known around the Eastside. First came Lisa Dupar catering. Then the delicious Pomegranate Bistro in Redmond with its windows into the catering kitchens to watch the magic happen. Now Cafe Dupar has opened in Woodinville. Stop in for a warm waffle sandwich or check out their pastry case full of flavored croissants, scones, cakes and more. The candy ginger and spiced pear scone is highly recommended!
Lady Yum
- Best Macarons
- Kirkland and Bellevue
Kirkland’s Lady Yum is taking the Seattle area by storm! They now also have a location in Bellevue Square and three other locations in the area. With their tagline ‘macarons and mischief’ it’s not surprising that the stores have a wonderfully whimsical feel inside. You’ll find a selection of always available popular flavors including salted caramel, raspberry chardonnay and unicorn (cotton candy), as well as rotating seasonal and monthly surprises. Most locations have seating and serve wine and champagne as well. They also make a great gift with beautiful packaging and nationwide shipping available.
Royal Bakehouse
- Work Day Treats
- Downtown Bellevue
If you’re looking for classic, French favorites, the Royal Bakehouse in Bellevue is the place to go! Crepes, croissants, mille-feuille, and more are available in your favorite flavors and a few fun twists as well. The ham and cheese croissant here is particularly good, as is the tiramisu eclair and hazelnut creme puff.
And if you’re looking at the picture above, you’ll see that there are also some unexpected items at Royal Bakehouse. On a recent trip to the bakery, one of their employees convinced us to try their pina colada croissant. Was it a flavor we expected to eat before stopping in the restaurant? Certainly not. But it was delicious and a must-try if you’re a pineapple fan.
There’s generally a quiet atmosphere here, great to get a little work done while you enjoy your treats. Great coffee, too, the dark chocolate mocha is delish!
Wildflour Gluten-Free Baking
- Best Gluten Free
- Overlake in Bellevue
Wildflour isn’t just good for a gluten-free bakery. It’s great even for gluten lovers! You can find their breads, cookies and pastries at their Bellevue or Ballard shops or various farmer’s markets in the summer months. Their sandwich bread and sweet loaf breads, such as the lemon poppyseed bread are favorites, as are the lavender lemon bars and double chocolate chip cookies.
La Fête Pâtisserie Française
- Best Croissants
- Mercer Island
Mercer Island’s La Fête Pâtisserie Française is nirvana for pain au chocolate lovers. Here, a simple chocolate croissant isn’t enough, there’s also a gianduja (chocolate hazelnut) croissant, a chocolate raspberry croissant, a fall pumpkin chocolate croissant… The regular and almond croissants are pretty amazing, too. Also, come at lunch for French-style baguette sandwiches.
Above, you’ll see a look at their pastry case from a recent Saturday when we stopped in. We had the Gianduja (hazelnut chocolate) croissant and can recommend it without any reservations. It was delicious.
Belle Pastry
- Eastside Staple
- Downtown Bellevue
If you’re looking for a cute bakery with plenty of seating, perhaps to meet a friend, Belle Pastry is the place to go. You’ll find it on Main St. in Old Bellevue, a cute street full of great food and shops worth wandering down if you haven’t before. This bakery has a nice variety of classic favorites such as croissants, napoleons, tarts and cakes.
Hoffman’s Fine Cakes & Pastries
- Best Cakes
- Redmond
One of the most beloved cakes on the Eastside is Hoffman’s princess torte. It’s a beautiful sponge cake with raspberry jam, whipped cream, and a marzipan outer layer. This Redmond bakery has a wide variety of other cakes, baked goods, and even a light breakfast and lunch menu available. Give their whole wheat cinnamon rolls a try, or the flaky cinnamon crisp, it’s been a favorite of mine since I was a child.
Hollywood Baked Goods
- Party Treats
- Totem Lake in Kirkland
This Kirkland bakery has the fun baked goods to make your next kid’s birthday, holiday party, or baby/bridal shower a hit! Cupcakes, cake pops, holly-o’s (dipped sandwich cookies), and more are not only delicious but beautifully decorated and sold by the dozen, with gluten free and vegan options! Of course, they also sell them individually if you’re just looking to satisfy your sweet tooth.
T55 Patisserie
- Best NEW Bakery
- Downtown Bothell
This new Bothell shop is a small volume bakery with some really interesting high-quality baked goods. Plan to come early and wait in line! The items available change weekly and include classics as well as classics with a twist. Their delicious pain au chocolat is gorgeous in a flower design. Their choux pastry rotates between fun flavors such as pecan green apple, black forest, or banoffee. The creamy tarts are quite popular, rotating between flavors such as matcha and caramel apple pie.
L’Experience Paris
- Vacation Vibes
- Bellevue, Mercer Island, Issaquah
With locations in Bellevue, Mercer Island and Issaquah, L’Experience Paris aims to do just what its name suggests: allow its guests to experience a piece of Paris. This shop wears a few different hats to meet that goal, including bistro, cafe, and gift shop, but in the morning, it’s primarily a bakery (or patisserie)! The kouign-amann here is delicious, as is the beautiful petit yuzu pastry.
